Wikijunior:World Heritage Sites/Robben Island
Robben Island is a small island near Cape Town, South Africa. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
Robben Island is most notable because it is where former President of South Africa and Nobel prize winner Nelson Mandela was kept prisoner for years before his release in the early 1990s when Apartheid ended and soon after Nelson Mandela became the first black President of South Africa.
