Persepolis (also known as Takht-e-Jamshid), built around 500 BC, was the ceremonial capital of the Achaemenid Persian Empire. It is situated 60 km northeast of the city of Shiraz in Fars Province, Iran. The Persepolis was made of stones and woods. It was burned during the invasion of Alexander the Great.
