- That's not how you add links to other pages. Links are created using Wikilinks, not URLs. For example, Book_Title/Chapter_Name is an absolute link, Name/ is a relative link and does the same as the absolute link. There are other formats like Name/ that can be used for navigating around the hierarchy. QuiteUnusual (discuss • contribs) 09:28, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

- As a new user, you added multiple URLs in a single edit. This is a common vandalism pattern and so is blocked. If you make the edit without the URLs, then add them one at a time, until you've built up a larger edit history, the problem will stop. This is a global filter so we can't prevent it blocking you here. QuiteUnusual (discuss • contribs) 09:45, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Book is available on Google Docs at "docs.google.com/document/d/1mz6acHaSeV7GRJTl_AfozzIhQ4xJhADrR_EubsASl-w/edit?usp=sharing" (HTTPS).

Hi @MarkJFernandes:, I'm Jules. Now I'm not an admin, so I can't alter any of the filters. But I can give you some advice on a possible way to proceed, looking at the problems you've encountered. My advice is:
- Create your sandbox. It is located at User:MarkJFernandes/sandbox. I'll assume you how to do this.
- Gradually import your book there. Since you are being caught up by filters, the best thing to do may be to import it without markup; doing so will not trigger any filters. And then add the markup later on.
- When you're more or less happy with what you've got, export it to main-space (I can help you in this regard).
- Further technical problems can be discussed at Wikibooks:Reading room/Technical Assistance.
Good luck, --Jules (Mrjulesd) 13:11, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Mrjulesd:, thanks so much for your help. I had previously been trying to get the sandbox to work but was having the same problems as before, and became completely confused about what to do.
- Have managed to resolve the issues. To resolve the issues, I tried stripping the code down gradually, until I reached something about which the abuse (edit) filter system didn't complain. I then selectively added bits of code back, until I figured out that the code '' was tripping-up the system. Originally, hyperlinks were between these two tags, but after I removed external links, these ineffectual tags were still there (left behind, perhaps accidentally you might say).
- Do you know anything about external links and how to deal with them? In the original book, I've added many hyperlinks mostly to Wikipedia articles... would like to keep them.
- Hi linking to Wikipedia articles is easy. They take the general form
Link description
. An example would be Wikipedia:Potato which links to Potato on en.wp (look at the source). If you do this edit filters shouldn't be a problem. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 13:45, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

- Hello @Mrjulesd:, thanks for your help again.
- I've been adding the book at User:MarkJFernandes/End-user_Computer_Security/Main. Is that the same as using the sandbox? I'm a bit confused as to whether it is my sandbox or not.
- Anyway, I've run into an unusual issue. I'm unable to add the following code:
- even though I've managed to do pretty much the same thing for another link on the page. See the other link published in the below screenshot:
- The error message I'm receiving is:
- An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, ... A brief description of the error is Abuse 23.
- Any ideas what's going wrong?

If needed I can remove these links, however, I think it's basic decency to give credit to these sources.

- I linked the official website to download the drivers, which made the guide a lot easier. This also made the drivers easier to install for users who use different operation systems on their calculator (because now you don't need a calculator to install the USB drivers).
I also removed the 'resetting of the calculator' step from the 'driver' segment, because it has nothing to do there since a calculator is not needed anymore. I did place the 'resetting of the calculator' as the first step though, since it's a crucial step.

- I have copied your content to the correct page, AQA A-Level Physics/Binding Energy. I can't tell you why the filter blocked you as we don't disclose the rules used to identify problem edits, but this was a rare false positive. As Leaderboard notes, the page should be a subpage (the way I've created it). Also, for future edits, please avoid using HTML markup - Wiki markup is much friendly to other editors. - Done, false positive. Answering your questions on IRC, what happened was that you tried to add an external link (no matter what), which triggered a filter that is designed to hold off spammers that try to spam the site very frequently. And for the question "And where did my edits go?", your blocked edits were stored in a filter log, where admins can retrieve it and add it for you in the case of a mistake like this. After making one more edit, your account will be lifted of this restriction and you should not face this issue again. Leaderboard (discuss • contribs) 14:39, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

- I think you probably want to change MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-link-spam to remove the language of trying to rapidly add external links. The bots won't care about what the message says and all actual users who get the message will be confused since, per the filter criteria can't have made more than an edit before. - My concern here is not my edit being initial blocked but confusing and insulting new editors with a message saying that they "are adding external links to many different Wikibooks pages in rapid succession" which isn't the case since they have at most one previous edit otherwise they wouldn't see the message.
- Something like the following would be significantly better. "Your edit has triggered an automated throttle designed to limit spammers. Usually external links shouldn't be added to Wikibooks. For some kinds of links this may be okay, but it is often a sign of people abusing Wikibooks. If that is not your intent, we apologize.
- If you do not believe your link to be spam and you received this message in error please report this error, but do not add the link itself. Your edit has been logged and is visible to trusted users. If you feel that the URL is needed, please request its addition here. " Trialpears (discuss • contribs) 21:41, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Trialpears: You made a good point there. I think the reason it was stated the way you quoted was because this message was imported from Wikipedia years back, who used a different filter than we do. - Radiation_Oncology/NSCLC/Early_Stage_Operable?veaction=edit§ion=12 (filter log)
- Description
- Lung Cancer Study Group trial (LCSG 773) established a benefit for RT in local control, but there was no impact on survival.
PORT Meta-analysis in 1998 analyzed individual data from 9 prospective trials. It concluded that RT had detrimental impact on survival, particularly in N0 and N1 stage. The results for Stage III and N2 disease favored RT, but were not statistically significant. As a result, clinical use of post-op RT dramatically decreased. However, radiation oncologists are critical of the meta-analysis conclusions for several reasons, including staging, patient selection, old technology and inappropriate dose/fractionation schedules. Retrospective evidence using modern RT techniques suggests a survival benefit for post-op RT in N2 patients; retrospective SEER data supports benefit for N2 patients, also suggests worse survival for N0-1 patients. Similarly, retrospective analysis of data from prospective trial (ANITA) suggest that PORT is detrimental in pN1 patients who undergo treatment with chemotherapy, but it is beneficial in pN1 patients who observed only. There was a benefit for PORT in pN2 patients regardless of whether they received adjuvant chemotherapy or not. The evidence is stronger for significant benefit in locorgeional control. Whether this can ultimately translate into survival (as it did in breast cancer) in N2 patients appears unlikely. The situation is confounded by the fact that adjuvant chemotherapy is becoming widely used, after publication of 3 positive trials (see below). Based on the existing data, current guidelines (e.g. ASCO 2021) do not recommend routine PORT for pN2 patients.

Apparently this detector considers HTTP links into Wikibooks itself to be "external".

You can get around this filter by using wikilinks, e.g. Topics_in_Abstract_Algebra/Linear_algebra to link to a page, or Special:Diff/4030275 to link to the diff in your edit.

- Your edit is being stopped for multiple reasons. Please create the page with an initial small edit - just a few lines. Then add each block of your text as a separate edit so that it takes, say, 10 edits to publish the whole page. This should allow you to complete the page without triggering the automatic rejection. Once you have a longer edit history, you will not have these problems. MarcGarver (discuss • contribs) 08:47, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

- Can't figure out exactly what word tripped the filter so I have removed most of the changes I made yesterday. Should be OK now.--Xania talk 03:42, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Tried creating Chess Opening Theory/1. d4/1...d5/2. c4/2...c6/3. Nf3/3...Nf6/4. Nc3/4...a6/5. c5 again while logged out, copped a 6 hr block. Possibly related, and possibly not (I have no idea what the filter actually filters), I just realized even the links to Special:AbuseLog in Template:Falsepositive are tyechnically external links, maybe that's what done it earlier. Anyway, I reckon I'll edit logged in going forward. GoodLineBadLine (discuss • contribs) 11:05, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Unblocked that account. Sorry for the problems. That filter is just weeding out keywords related to recent spam and, I think, not targeting external links. I'll change some things.--Xania talk 00:35, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

- I screwed up about the kind of page, that is to be moved, by keeping it in the user category of pages.
- (The blame could be on creamless americano coffee with coffee blossom honey.)
- The proper page is supposed to be Lombard if anyone would like to help me and Gat lombard with improving it.

- @Soulbust: new accounts can't add external links, so to do that, you will need to wait a few days first. — L10nM4st3r / ROAR at me! 12:26, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

- Hi, RdmBarta. There's a well known LTA who lurks this site that tends to add the word "radiation" among other words. You may need to wait a few days and make a few other edits before being able to make the change you were intending to. --SHB2000 (discuss • contribs) 22:05, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

- First time user. Standard newbie mistake, ignorance. Not quite sure what I did wrong. Also unsure if the work I did is saved. Initial commit with a few reference links. Likely offender was in a large section of, mostly unrelated, other possible mistakes. Highly likely this is not the only mistake or violation of protocol/etiquette I made. It is possible I failed the bot check picture by putting in an 'e' for a 'o'.

- A large edit with lots of URLs caused you to trigger both a local and global "spam" filter. Try making smaller edits. You will also find it less likely to fall foul of a filter if you create an account. MarcGarver (discuss • contribs) 13:07, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
