- d' is used before a word beginning with a vowel (d"o, for example), 'e is used before consonants.
- in usually becomes 'n or 'm before a consonant ('ncielo (in the sky) or 'mmiezo (in the middle), for example)
- p' is used before a word beginning with a vowel (p"o, for example), pe' is used before consonants.
Prepostions in Neapolitan are not generally articulated as they are in Italian, with the following exceptions:
- ô = a + 'o (Italian: al, allo) = to the (masculine)
- â = a + 'a (Italian: alla) = to the (feminine)
- ê = a + 'e (Italian: ai, agli, alle) = to the (plural)
- (d)int'ô = in + 'o (Italian: nel, nello) = in the (masculine)
- (d)int'â = in + 'a (Italian: nella) = in the (feminine)
- (d)int'ê = in + 'e (Italian: nei, negli, nelle) = (plural)
- Note that "in the" is not commonly used and usually you only use "in"
- 'ncopp'ô = ncoppe + 'o (Italian: sullo) = on the (masculine)
- 'ncopp'â = ncoppe + 'a (Italian: sulla) = on the (feminine)
- 'ncopp'ê = ncoppe + 'e (Italian: sui, segli, sulle) = on the (plural)
