Welcome to the Administrative Assistance reading room. You can request assistance from administrators for handling a variety of problems here and alert them about problems which may require special actions not normally used during regular content editing. Please be patient as administrators are often quite busy with either their own projects or trying to perform general maintenance and cleanup.

You can deal with most vandalism yourself: fix it, then warn the user. If there is repeated vandalism by one user, lots of vandalism on a single page, or vandalism from many users, tell an admin here, or in #wikibooks (say !admin to get attention).

For more general questions and assistance that doesn't require an administrator, please use the Assistance Reading Room.

Hi Artix here

Hi all,

If you have noticed, I've been globally locked. It was a good run though. I was falsely accused of sockpuppetry that is being unblocked. An appeal is in t he works for an unblock. Unfortunately, the sock block quickly spiralled out of control as other users decided to hunt across wiki and block me on several other wikis. Thus it was proper for a lock by a steward, as it was not worth continuing as a user with this username.

Much thanks to several users who made my time on wikibooks awesome. Shoutout to Atcovi, Pi zero, and QuiteUnusual for being friendly people and helpful to my enrichment. It was awesome editing the articles for the Guide to the Lord of the Rings and the Inheritance Cycle. Some day perhaps, I will come back and finish those books. Cheers. It was a pleasure.

Semi protect the Talk:Dutch Empire/Indonesian Independence

As per seen in this link, this page is one of the hotspot for Wikibooks "troll attack "page :

Its been deleted for 7 times as recently as in Q4 of 2019 and possible countless time of the reverting the content of troll's feud feud with Antdraus ? and Plystar?
Link :

For fresh start, can consider to semi protect the pages for 1 year so that disruptive editing can be avoided and not to waste time of blanking/reverting/blanking edit summary

Proposed by Encik Tekateki (discusscontribs) 04:11, 31 December 2019 (UTC)

I don't like to semi-protect the talk page of a content page. IPs should not be prevented from making suggestions. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 04:20, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
My goodness! @Encik Tekateki: That's a LTA, Steriv Lujpko aka George Reeves Person. I get the feeling that he is gonna create that page again. Atandras is an English Wikipedia admin who has been harassed by GRP since 2005. Please do NOT involve yourself any further if you don't want to get harassed by him. Protecting the page doesn't seem a good idea to me as he will just use another page. Instead keep an eye on in case they materialize and let admins know. I recommend to set up an abuse filter to stop this. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 06:30, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks @Masumrezarock100: for heads up. I shall stay away from him.
Forever Grateful Encik Tekateki (discusscontribs) 10:50, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
@Pi zero: GRP is back and he again created the page. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 02:04, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Zapped; thx. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 02:19, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
@Pi zero: I had a feeling that GRP was going to create that page again. So I created the talk page with just {{talk page}}. I hope it's OK with you, next time he does this again, you can just revert and revdel the diffs and apply short time protections if needed. Thanks. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 12:30, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Fair enough. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 13:08, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

LTA adding garbage to numerous pages. Please block. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 17:06, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Note: appears to be same user as and blocked earlier today by @Pi zero:. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 18:06, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Blocked this one, and "", and "". Got ahead of it for a few moments, and rangeblocked ""; was bemused to find I'd done exactly the same rangeblock back in October. And then cleaned up after "", which they'd turned to in the seconds between the last of those specific IP blocks and the rangeblock. --Pi zero (discusscontribs)
(Note: I see there's now a global block on that runs a whole month. Interesting.) --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 18:54, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
@QuiteUnusual: How would I go about assessing the possible collateral damage from a significantly longer-duration rangeblock on that range? (Or is the answer to that, "ask a checkuser"?) --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 18:49, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
@Pi zero: Correct, ask a CU! I've had a look and widened the block to the /16 and extended to a year. There's no impact on legitimate editors. QuiteUnusual (discusscontribs) 09:53, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Excellent work Pi zero! I have just noticed that they are now globally blocked for a month, see Special:Contributions/, presumably they're a cross-wiki LTA. They're a continual nuisance, but hopefully these blocks will slow them down somewhat. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 19:02, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, evidently we weren't the only ones they ticked off. :-)  --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 19:10, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
correct. It's a LTA. I asked around a bit about them after I first encountered them. But I could not get more intel on them. They started out an an IP and continues to vandalize crosswiki by copy-pasting the same information from Wikisource. If you see them around, please report them at m:SRG, thanks! Don't hesitate to click the rollback button if it's them. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 02:10, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
What is LTA?--ЗAНИA  talk 10:16, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Long term abuse, someone who continually causes disruption. Its used on Wikipedia and other places, e.g. see W:WP:LTA. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 10:43, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks--ЗAНИA  talk 13:23, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Also (admins), if the blocks aren't working because of, say, IP hopping, take a look at filter 64 and update with the relevant target text. QuiteUnusual (discusscontribs) 14:36, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Template:Vandal IP vandal. Please block. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 04:46, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

also please import w:en:Template:vandal and w:en:Template:IPVandal from enwiki. So that we can use it here. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 04:48, 11 January 2020 (UTC)
The user has been blocked. Don't have the time to import anything right now but will try to later if someone doesn't beat me to it. Thanks for your work in reverting the user's edits.--ЗAНИA  talk 06:59, 11 January 2020 (UTC)

IP vandal. -Riley Huntley (SWMT) 19:35, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Blocked that one. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 22:01, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

Please block. VOA. Thanks. —Hasley (discusscontribs) 20:15, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Help to rollback the "barnstars" vandal . Encik Tekateki (discusscontribs) 20:27, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Blocked. @Hasley: What does VOA stand for? --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 20:45, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Vandalism-only account. Seems to be a LTA. Thanks for blocking that account. —Hasley (discusscontribs) 20:57, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Ah. Vandalism-only account. Makes more sense that what I immediately thought of, from hanging out so much on Wikinews — Voice of America. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 21:43, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
I think the term might have originated on Wikipedia: see w:WP:VOA. Btw I remember Voice of America back in the day on my radio. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 23:05, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, I haven't this issue (maybe because Voice of America is Voz de América in Spanish). Also I saw them on Meta. —Hasley (discusscontribs) 00:21, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
