Anybody may be able to edit wikibooks, but that doesn't mean that all edits and all contributions are allowed to stay here. Wikibooks has some important rules to follow concerning what types of content can be added to our project. If you add content that isn't allowed, the content could be deleted, and (in extreme cases) you could be blocked from wikibooks all together.
What Can't be ContributedEdit
Wikibooks is a place for writing collaborative textbooks. Textbooks typically are used to convey information that is already known by the experts to the new students in the subject. For that reason, Wikibooks is not the correct place to write about new information. Anything that is new, original, or novel does not belong on wikibooks.
Textbooks also are informational works, not propaganda. For that reason, all material on wikibooks must maintain strict neutrality. You can not write to convince other people about your political ideologies, your religious beliefs, or any other biased information.
Even though you can add content to wikibooks at will, you should only use wikibooks for the creation of textbooks. Wikibooks shouldn't be used as a discussion forum, a blog, a bulletin board for outside projects, or a personal webhost for information that doesnt relate to our goals of writing textbooks. That information might all have some value, but it doesnt belong here.
What Can be ContributedEdit
Textbooks require text, certainly, but also images and diagrams and tables. All text contributed to Wikibooks must be licensed under the GFDL, but images and other media can be licensed under a number of other free licenses, such as the Creative Commons licenses, the BSD license, or even can be released into the public domain.
Images can be uploaded to the wikibooks server, or they can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Commons is a webserver that stores images for use on many projects, wikibooks, wikipedia, and wikiversity all share images with Commons. If you have an image you would like to upload, consider uploading it at wikimedia commons, so everybody can share it.
