This is a field guide to the types of flora and fauna that an adventurer may encounter while traveling through these fantasy realms. Here, the term "monster" is used when these creatures are encountered within the game of Dungeons & Dragons.

Bestiary

The tables below show basic details gathered by indigenous experts. It categorizes them by general type and gives an overview of their dimensions, general behavior, and range of habitats. The table columns are as follows:

Column Description
Name The most common name used for this type of creature. It is linked to a more detailed description page.
Adult size The overall dimensions of the adult creature based on a 5-foot square unit. Medium means the creature is roughly the size of an adult human, and occupies a single 5′ × 5′ square during combat.
Threat level This is based upon the game's challenge rating: Low means a base Challenge Rating (CR) below 1, Moderate is a CR between 1 and 4, High is a CR of 5 to 8, Very High is a CR of 9 to 12, and Extreme is a CR of 13 or higher.
Behavior The most common alignment, or ethical behavior, of the creature.
Typical groups The typical size of the largest groups that have been spotted. Smaller groups are possible.
Range The surface habitat where this creature is most likely to be encountered.
First published description the name and year of the first published details of the creature. Many of the creatures described herein have appeared in multiple publications, with some of the details changing over time. Some are based upon mythology or creatures that appeared in fictional works, while others are the product of gamer's imagination.
