Crème de menthe is a sweet, mint-flavoured liqueur.[1]
Characteristics
editThe liqueur is made either by steeping mint leaves in a neutral grain alcohol or by flavoring the alcohol with mint extract.[2] It is then liberally sweetened.[3] It is available commercially in a colourless and a green form,[2] the latter of which obtains its colour from the mint leaves or from the addition of colouring.[3] Both varieties have similar flavours and are interchangeable in recipes, except where the colour is important.

editCrème de menthe is used as an ingredient in several cocktails, such as the Grasshopper and the Stinger.[3][4] It is also served as an after-dinner drink and can be used in food as a flavouring.[2] The liqueur can be made at home by steeping fresh mint in vodka for several days, followed by sweetening with sugar syrup.[4]
