Calabash nutmeg, also called African nutmeg or ehuru, is the dried seed of Monodora myristica.

Characteristics edit

Inside its outer shell, calabash nutmeg takes the form of an oblong seed.[1] These seeds are dried and ground to produce an aromatic spice with very similar characteristics to nutmeg but somewhat earthier.[1][2]

Use edit

Calabash nutmeg is common in Nigerian cuisine, where it is used as both a spice and thickener.[2] It can be incorporated into both sweet and savory dishes.[1]
