~Basic Info~
Hello! My name is Erica Corbett and I am a first year Grad Student who is earning my Masters in Elementary Education (Pre K - 6). I earned my BA from James Madison University in Political Science (Go Dukes!!), so this political election was like Christmas to me. In my spare time I love to watch sports, mainly college football and basketball. My favorite teams consist of JMU, ODU, TECH, and MASON. For this year's superbowl I will have to go for the Pittsburgh Steelers =). Music is a major passion of mine. I love to sing and dance. It's something that I have been doing since I was little and having a career in that field is something that I will accomplish after graduation (maybe before). I love to listen to all types of music. My Ipod consists of artists from Lil Wayne to Hootie and the Blowfish. Another aspect about myself that I would like to share is that I speak two different languages (Russian and Italian). I can write, read, and translate both languages. However, I am more familiar with the Russian language just because I've known it longer =).
~Teaching Philosophy~
I believe in the bottom - up approach when it comes to learning. I feel that in order for the student to learn well, the instructor must teach the basics first and work their way up. For example, one must learn the numbers first before delving into addition, subtraction and other forms of calculation. In order for the instructor to convey their lessons. They must take an interactionist approach. Meaning, the instructor should teach the lessons directly and allow the student to complete assignments that's related to the subject. This involves a more hands on approach for the student. Using this approach, one can actually measure the progress of the student.
I agree with your approach/style of teaching. I also believe that students should be given the building blocks(foundation) first, and then progress upward. That was how I learned. My teachers taught it and then we practiced what we learned in class. Great approach!Feking (talk) 15:46, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
