Energy Audit Procedure
editBefore the Audit
editBefore you leave to go on the audit there are some things you need to take care of.
1. Make sure that you have a "Lighting Inventory Sheet" 2. Make sure that the light sensor in the tool crib is ready to go (Batteries work) 3. Read the Walk through Checklist Lighting section
Data Collection
editEvery plant has lights and it will be your job to collect the necessary data to write a report. Here are the basic things to look for and collect.
1. Have a plant worker walk you around the plant and help you fill out the "Lighting Inventory Sheet" 2. Have the plant worker help you make estimates as to how long the lights are on 3. If you are not sure what types of lights you are looking at do one of the following 1. Ask the worker 2. If they don't know ask to see the storage room were spares are kept and use data off them 3. If all else fails take a guess (Use the color table in the walk through to guess type) 4. Make sure to take note of lighting on in low use areas (Warehouses, sheds, bathrooms)
Data Entry
editUse the lighting inventory excel sheet at the bottom of the page to enter all the data you have collected from the plant visit.
1. Rename sheet ("Lighting Inv & Rec ###.xls") and replace the ### with report number 2. Once all the data is entered in the inventory tab you can use the tabs at the bottom of the sheet(Fix 1) to calculate savings. 3. Choose which type of recommendation you would like to implement located at the top of the page. Once you have entered the fixture information, including code, quantity and hours of operation, the rest of the information will fill itself in. The fixture codes are available on the tab titled 'Fixtures'. Using the information from your inventory, you should be able to find the code easily. The most important information the spreadsheet calculates is the savings column. The values here give you an idea of how worthwhile your AR is. 4. Once you have filled out all of the (Fix #) sheets, click the Summary tab. The Summary tab adds up all of the individual sheets demand, energy, materials and labor savings. This table will be very useful when writing your AR.
Editing the Lighting Workbook
editTo enter a new fixture into the lighting workbook you will need to enter the information on the fixture into the fixture worksheet.
1. Create a unique code for the new fixture and its ballasts and/or lamps (if not already in the Ballast/lamp worksheets) 2. Fill out any Ballast/lamp information 3. Copy the Ballast/Lamp codes into the appropriate boxes on the Fixture worksheet. 4. To get watts/Lamp use the code VLOOKUP($I126,Lamps!$A$4:$G$79,4,FALSE) and change 126 to the row your entry is in and 79 to whatever row the corresponding lamp is in. 5. Enter all other Fixture information 6. To get the inventory to recognize the Fixture code you need to go to the Formulas tab and Select Name Manager. This will bring up a box with a list of Names, scroll down until you find Fixture table then change the scope to include your new entry. 7. To get the Recommendations to recognize the lamps/ballasts you need to do the same as above for Lamps Table and Ballasts Table.
Report Writing
editIn order to start your AR, first follow the general instructions under the 'Starting an AR Write-up' section. Now that you have a basic outline of your AR, you can begin. Old AR's are the most important resource when writing. Most reports have a lighting AR, and it is highly likely that you will be able to find one very similar to what you're working on. You can use the old AR as an outline, that when filled in with your information and edited to your specifications, will work as a good draft. Make sure your Calculation Methodology is as concise as possible and very easy to follow. That way, the client can easily replicate your calculations with other data if needed. Add subheadings when dealing with multiple savings/implementation costs. After your calculation methodology is finished, copy all of the (Fix #) sheets from Excel into the end of the section. Make sure your Persuasive is concise and includes a picture related to your AR. Appendix Writing The lighting appendix is similar in all reports. It includes important definitions for the client to easily follow the report followed by the lighting inventory you created in the excel spreadsheet. An example of definitions is attached at the bottom of this web page.
