The raw diet is a diet in which adherents eat nothing that has been heated over a particular temperature, usually 117 or 118 degrees Fahrenheit. The diet therefore consists mainly of uncooked fruits, nuts, and vegetables in their natural state. Raw foodists have however created a wide range of raw products and recipes including ones for cookies, "pasta" and pies. Most raw foodists are vegan, but some also eat raw meat and raw dairy products.

The diet has been credited with many health improvements by its adherents, but has also been criticized as being unrealistic and unmaintainable in its purest form. Most people who eat raw do so for relatively short periods (weeks to months) before returning to their "normal" diet. They will periodically return to being raw as a sort of cleanse.
