The oil palm fruit—also called oil palm nut, banga fruit, or palm fruit—is the fruit of the African oil palm Elaeis guineensis.

Characteristics

edit

The fruit is approximately plum-sized and reddish-orange in color. It has a single seed or kernel.

Uses

edit

The flesh of the oil palm fruit can be pounded and strained to produce a liquid called palm fruit extract or concentrate. This is especially used to make banga soup. The fruit and the kernel can also be processed to make palm oil.
