Caldo de peixe is a traditional Cape Verdean soup that still holds a special place among the Islanders. Depending on personal preferences, additional ingredients can be incorporated, and the dish can be served with condiments of choice.

- Potatoes, diced
- Sweet potatoes, diced
- Green bell pepper, chopped
- Red bell pepper, chopped
- Onions, chopped
- Medium tomatoes, chopped
- Saltwater fish (e.g. tautog, cod, bluefish, or sea bass), cut into small pieces
- Scallions, sliced
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Procedure edit
- Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the white and sweet potatoes. Boil for approximately 15 minutes or until they are partially cooked. Drain.
- Heat some oil over low heat in a separate pot. Add the onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Cook until softened.
- Add the fish, and continue sautéing.
- Add the drained potatoes, and add enough water to make a soup. Simmer until the fish and potatoes are fully cooked.
- Add the parsley and scallions, and serve.
