Metrication is needed if Wikipedia Cookbook is to be useful to people who don't live in the USA. Many cookbook recipes use pounds, ounces and fluid ounces which are not a big problem to convert but some recipes use cups which can be extremely confusing because cup sizes vary from country to country and it's never clear where the original author of a recipe is from.
