Hello everyone - Thanks for checking out my page! My name is Regan Owens, and I am 23 years old. I am originally from Mathews County, VA, but I currently reside in Virginia Beach. Mathews is a very small town on the bay with no stop lights and TONS of old people. As boring as it sounds, I am very thankful that I grew up in such a wonderful place. My entire family still lives in Mathews, so I spend a lot of my time there. For now, I wait tables to pay the bills. I love food, so the fact that I have the opportunity to try new things at work is great for me. I spend nearly all of my free time in the summer doing something water-related. I love to go to the beach, swim, tan, fish and I hope to learn how to surf in the near future. I also love to spend time with my family and friends, read, cook, eat, play with my dog, shop and travel.

After graduating high school, I attended Longwood University. My goal at Longwood was to obtain a degree in elementary education. After one semester, I was incredibly homesick, and I decided to move home. Back in Mathews, I attended a local community college for two years. Two years ago, I moved to Norfolk and started taking classes at ODU. I am currently finishing up my bachelor’s degree in tourism and recreation management. My original career goal was to become an event planner. As I have gotten closer to obtaining my degree, however, I have realized that teaching is still what I really want to do. Because teaching is still my passion, I have started taking the preliminary classes for a Master’s degree in education pre-k through 6.

My Educational Philosophy:

I like to think of my current education philosophy as a rough draft version. Because this is my first class in the education field, my knowledge on the topic is limited. I do know, however, that I believe every child has the ability to learn. Some children may be better at learning than others, but I strongly believe that with enough support, encouragement and positive reinforcement, every child can learn. Nothing breaks my heart more than a child being excluded. I think that a great teacher is one who has the compassion and patience to take the most troubled child - show them how important they are, and give them the desire and motivation to learn.
