Work on the collaborative essay edit

I have chosen to include some of my initial works on the collaborative essay as the main page for the group is a little confusion at the time being so I am originally gonna work from here so I can set out my own work more clearly Ohmygoldfish (discusscontribs) 14:46, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Comparison of different sources of News and the impacts they have on the environment:

The environmental impacts of News through different mediums is a fairly hard thing to track, as environmental impacts can come in many different forms. Reichart & Hischier (2003) discuss the perceptions of environmental impacts when produced from different sources, and there are certain often overlooked points which need to be addressed (Pg 186). Reichart & Hischier (2003), introduce the different connections between mediums and their environmental impacts by introducing the that there are many factors outside the core production, in that the length of time one many spend using an email rather than a letter causes electricity usage to increase (Pg 186). The environmental impacts are potentially more convoluted than might be expected, as there are so many different external factors and parts of production which are not easily visible in the day to day usage of media and also within the production cycles of all the different methods of producing and consuming news. In their findings Reichart & Hischier (2003), find that actually the environmental impacts of news are higher for computer (and therefore online) sources of news because of ‘the production phase of the computer and the use phase for the internet’ (Pg 192). This is something often not considered when thinking about environmental impacts as often people perceive only the production of the primary thing they are consuming. Furthermore, there are other impacts of the computer and online media, as they require additional sources to be able to be operated, as not of the computer requires electricity but also the peripherals required to maintain it, in both the production and consumption phase of News Media (Reichart. Hischier, 2003, Pg 193). So production of news, particularly online news has many unseen and subtle impacts upon the environment which are often left unconsidered in the overall system of news production cycle.

A Courtesy Feedback to you @Ohmygoldfish: Thank you for the time you have taken to look into this matter. Wonderful article to take some inspiration from. Very apt title right to the meat of the matter. From feedback I got from Greg on a previous Wiki exercise he highlighted one of the marking criteria. so i just want to remind you here as I use this for myself too. Precision. I think you are very near to bringing the point across to us but there was some repetition and so I feel that you are searching for a strong position to hang on to. Even though I say that i gather exactly what you are saying. its the repetition that makes me feel that you are searching. What you need may very well be in the article. If you could support the argument of electrical usage by technology equipment from the article with any figures reflecting quantitative data then that would help to drive the point closer to home in our heads about our electricity usage whether individually or on a global scale. This is just a suggestion tho - if there is any numerical data in the Journal by Reichart & Hischier.

line 3 and there are certain often overlooked points which need to be addressed (Pg 186). Reichart & Hischier (2003), introduce the different connections between mediums and their environmental impacts by introducing the that there are many factors outside the core production, - the overlooked points could be highlighted maybe?
line 6 - as there are often many overlooked aspects of the different production cycles of all the different methods of producing and consuming news. - here is where the repetition happens so maybe look at replacing this information.
line 9 This is something often not considered when thinking about environmental impacts as often people perceive only the production of the primary thing they are consuming. Furthermore, there are other impacts of the computer and online media, as they require additional sources to be able to be operated,
line 13 So production of news, particularly online news has many different considerations to take into account when attempting to understand the environmental impacts of said media. - here I think you should zero in on "the considerations"by saying " many different" you may be blanketing the point without narrowing it down.

@AuthenticEnough: Awesome thanks, i can often make mistakes such as these, I have a bad habit of having an idea of what I wanna write and then just bashing it out as fast as possible. thank you for actually taking the time to read my work, definitely gonna take your points on board and rework my piece. Super helpful advice from you as always!
