About Me

edit

My name is Mary Parker, but I go by Mary Liz. I am a very family oriented person, I have a sister who is a senior in high school and two amazing parents. Of course, I love the beach and summer, however; I am also a huge country fan. I am majoring in Early Childhood Education and would like to be a Kindergarten teacher. I was born and raised in Virginia Beach and wouldn't have it any other way. It is my second year at Old Dominion and I absolutely love everything about it! Right now, I am working at the ODU Daycare in the infant room and it has been my favorite job so far. I have also volunteered at the ODU Childhood Development Center and worked at St. Gregory the Great Elementary School as a camp counselor. Throughout my entire life, I have wanted to pursue a career as a teacher and I know I am well on my way.

Philosophy of Education

edit

My philosophy of education can be summarized into two words: patience and consistency. I am an avid believer in the fact that every child learns differently and should be handled in their own specific way. In order to recognize how to approach each individual student, the educator must be patient and consistent. Patience is important to find out how a specific young person learns and to be able to work at their own pace. Consistency is necessary in order to ensure that no child is left behind. I have always been a very patient and consistent person when dealing with children and I believe every child responds positively to this type of educational philosophy.
