About Me

edit

My name is Michael Cotterell and I an a junior at Old Dominion University. This is my firs semester here and my major is History Education on the Secondary Level. Family is a huge part of my life. I have a brother who is 17 years old and is currently selecting where he wants to attend college, hopefully he chooses ODU. I also have a little sister who is 9 years old. My family is very close knit and I see my aunts, uncles, cousins and grandma at least once a week. I love country music and I have just about seen every country singer since I was a toddler in concert. Without sports I wouldn't know what to do with my free time. I enjoy watching and playing football, baseball, golf, basketball and just about any other sport. My favorite sports teams are the Washington Redskins in football and the New York Mets in baseball. College football would be the Virginia Tech Hokies and next fall will be ODU!! College basketball would be Virginia Tech and ODU. I am an advid fan of NASCAR and that is probably my favorite sport. I got the opportunity to meet my favorite nascar driver Kurt Busch this past summer in my hometown of Chesapeake. His wife went to Great Bridge High School and they were at a local restaurant Court House Cafe. It was definatley one of the coolest things that has happened in my life. I play college football for a year at Chowan University. It was a great experience, but it was more like a job than a hobby and I decided I would come back home and finish college at Old Dominion.

Education Philosophy

edit

In life many students often remember those teachers that left ever lasting footprints in their lives. I want to be one of those teachers that students remember after school is said and done. My philosophy is teach to inspire. I want students to take something with them every time they leave the classroom wether or not they want to become a teacher or a CEO. They will be able to grasp something they impacted the way I teach and they will use it in their life somehow. I want to bring in new innovations to the classroom that is a more hands on style, not just copying from an overhead and endless worksheets. Powerpoints and hands on activites will engage many students to enjoy the subject matter.
