Magefile
Collaboration?
Hi Magefile
I have a similar project and I looking for help to finish it off - see http://www.nongnu.org/fhsst . My name is Mark Horner and we'd like to put all our content on the web in the end but we are looking for help to finish it off. The licence is also the GFDL so all of the content can be imported into Wikibooks - in fact that would make it easier for us to put it on the web.
Please let me know if you could be convinced to help out - all my details are on the website.
Mark: thank you for your invitation. Unfortunately, I won't be able to help out with your project; I don't have the time to commit to anything more than a few minutes on the weekend (which is what Wikibooks is for me). I do not have any formal qualifications, and have not yet finished university, so I do not know how much I could contribute anyway - again, Wikibooks is great because it's a weekend hobby for everyone. Finally, what drew me to wikibooks is the anonymity - I hate giving out my identity, having my email available on the web, etc.
However, as you pointed out, your project is FDL, so you can take what you need from Wikibooks. I encourage you to take anything of mine as well, as long as it stays under that license. (You don't need the permission, as it's already FDL. But if you wish to get consent from the author(s) first anyway, consider my consent given)
I am very pleased to see a serious effort being made to provide a Free textbook that will be used in a high school (wikibooks is wonderful, but no schools are planning to use it any time soon). I do wonder, though - is English the dominant language in South Africa, or are you writing it in English in order to allow international work on, and use of, the project? Or perhaps both?
Thanks again.
I will probably be contributing mostly to the math/science areas (specifically, trig, algebra, geometry and physics).
If you wish to respond to something I've written elsewhere, post it on this page. --magefile 02:23, 13 May 2004 (UTC)
