"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." -Albert Einstein
My name is Leeza. I'm 22. I graduated from Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach in 2004. I then went on to attend UVA-Wise, which is a branch of UVA located in Wise, VA., on a volleyball scholarship where I was a two-time All-American as well as won a regional championship my senior year. I obtained my BA in History with a minor in Women's Studies in 2008. Now I am enrolled in the lincensure program here at ODU where I plan to become certified to teach high school history. I like to read, watch movies, go to the beach, and play sports and workout. I also have a three year old German Shepard named D'brickashaw who I love.
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can rememeber. I think the main reason was because I always had good teachers throughout school and I looked up to them. I enjoy being around kids and being able to teach them something new. My teaching philosphy is a work in progress right now. To me it is important to give the students something to go home and think about other than homework. School should be something students look forward to. It should not just be a place where you learn addition and grammer. It is much more than that. It is a place where friendships are formed, life lessons are learned, moral compasses are redirected, and children discover what they want to do with their lives. I want to be a part of that because when I am old and can not work anymore, these children will be running the country. They are our future and it is up to us to leave a good impression. A good teacher makes the information interesting and relavent to the student. I hope to become a good teacher but I know it will not come easy. I once read a quote that said, "An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how to make a life."
