~ ABOUT ME ~
|
I AM ME!!!...My name is Jessica Metcalf, and I love the arts. My passion is music. Cello and voice are my main mediums of musical expression, though I do dabble with any instrument I can get my hands on. I study music education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, and I love it. The more I study music education, the more I love the idea of becoming a music teacher.
Originally from Oklahoma, I am a small town, family girl, but I love people. I want to see the world and explore everything the world has to offer...the good, the bad, and everything in between. With an open mind, I constantly search to unlock the secrets of myself and everything around me.
~ MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION ~
I believe every child is an individual, each with his or her own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It is the combination of those three elements that shapes the character of a child. Though each incredibly unique, every child has the potential to learn anything, if given opportunity and encouragement. Most importantly, every child should be given the opportunity to expand his or her imagination. Creativity is vital to all things educational, especially music. Music combines every educational subject: science, math, history, physical education, and foreign language, but most importantly music is feeling-ful. Music education allows students of all ages to express a wide range of human feelings and emotions in a rather unique way. Many times in the classroom, the child is forgotten amongst the books, homework, and exams. After all, as teachers, we do not teach subjects; we teach people!!!
