About Me

Hi, I'm Judy and I am a stay at home mom and part-time student. I have boy/girl twins who have just turned 12, and I will graduate Spring 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. I have decided that being an engineer would not fit my current lifestyle, and after minoring in special education I am excited by the idea of teaching chemistry and physics in an inclusive classroom. I plan to go on to graduate school and obtain my master's degree in special education to bring this idea to reality.

Educational Philosophy

I see myself not as a teacher, but as a facilitator, someone who will introduce students to the material, guide them to the resources they need for understanding, be available to answer questions and act as a sounding board for ideas. As a special educator, I will be taught the tools I will need to engage my students in whatever learning style they understand best, and I hope I can help them reach their full potential. I will use all the technology the school can provide, and I expect my students will teach me about the best way to use that technology in the classroom and to alert me to new technologies. In my pre-motherhood days I was a chemical laboratory technician and I hope to use my experience to educate my students about the use of science in industry, research, and education. I want to prepare my class for life beyond public school, and to make science less sterile. I came from a school system that treated science education as a chore, not as a necessary component to modern life. I wince when I hear people say they hate or fear science, it shouldn't be that way, and I hope to change that perception.
