The genus Myriophyllum (water-milfoil) contains three aquatic species that are listed as invasive and prohibited in New York State. All have some presence in the Finger Lakes PRISM and so have some degree of likelihood of being found in the water bodies of the Skaneateles Conservation Area:

  • Myriophyllum spicatum (Eurasian water-milfoil), present in all surrounding lakes, including Skaneateles, Otisco, Onondaga, etc.
  • Myriophyllum heterophyllum (broadleaf water-milfoil), reported in only a few spots in FL-PRISM, but present in several large Adirondack Lakes
  • Myriophyllum aquaticum (parrot feather), reported in only a few spots in upstate New York. More common further south.
