Introduction
General Overview
editWhat are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
editPokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are games released for the Nintendo Switch video game console. Considered the start of the Generation 9 Pokémon games, these games expanded on mechanics introduced in Generation 8 by making a near fully open and explorable 3D region based loosely on the Iberian peninsula. Players who know other owners of the game may choose to connect over wireless communications, allowing them to share a game world.
What are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC?
editThe DLC to Scarlet and Violet adds two new locations to the game, along with two additional dexs to accompany them, as well as additional story arcs. The Teal Mask is accessible to lower level players and is highly story focused, while The Indigo Disk is aimed at players further along in the game and has more emphasis on double battles.
Differences between the games
editAs usual both versions of the game feature different creatures to encounter. Both games feature a different ride Pokémon.
The overall story between both games is mostly similar, though the Professor encountered in each is different, as is the name and uniform colors of the school the player character attends. Pokémon Scarlet has a thematic emphasis on the past and Pokémon Violet has a thematic emphasis on the future.

Branching Paths
Opening up
editAfter the conclusion of the tutorial, the game opens up to the player, mostly allowing the player to go where they want or do as they please. There are three paths of objectives, each of which can mostly be completed in any order. In general the further the player goes from Mesagoza, the more challenging these objectives will be.
The three primary objectives of the game are:
- Completing the gym challenge with Nemona, which enables the player to more easily use Pokémon of a higher level and adds more items to the shops, and classes to the school.
- Finding the Herba Mystica with Arven, which allows the player to have more movement options.
- Battling Team Star for Cassiopeia, which awards the player with additional currency and moves.
Travel Direction
editTraveling along the path to either east or west from Mesagoza will result in the player encountering suitable beginner objectives at first. It is possible to skip an objective and move on, though doing so may make reaching or completing other objectives more difficult. Rather then going in a complete circle around Paldea, the game becomes much easier if you alternate directions, tackling one or two objectives on one side, and then one or two on the other, as both will be balanced for similar levels.
Advised Travel strategy
editSince Pokemon Scarlet and Violet doesn't scaling up Pokemon levels, but went with the strategy of "the farther, the stronger", it can be hard not to be overleveled when exploring Paldea without restraints. And while you can check online the Gyms and over events levels, traveling Paldea by levels making traveling weird and kinda against the point of the open world nature of the game. Here's a strategy that I used while playing the game that made the traveling balanced.
This guide is good only if you expect to take each challenge as you tackle them. (as it seems to be intended that way)
First Phase: Pick left or right after leaving Mezagosa, and get along the road from either West-south/East-south to West-North/East north, doing every event you tackle on (Gym, Team star base or Titan Pokemon). Build Pokemon teams according to the challenge type (it appears on the map). You should train your teams along the road with Pokemon trainers or catching Pokemon. It's advised to make the route challenges.Stop the traveling when you come to Medali and also not challenging the titan near there.
Second Phase: Go back to Mezagosa, and pick the other route that you didn't choose in the first phase (left if you picked right, right if you picked left). Do the same pattern for the first phase by making a team for any challenge you come across, and get to Medali in the same south to north way. If you followed this guide and trained your Pokemon teams well, they are supposed to be around Lvl 30-37. So it's time to fight the Medali gym and battle the titan in the lake.
Third Phase: After Fighting the Medali Gym you can go North Paladea without fearing of being underleveled. Start making a proper Pokemon team combined with mix types (you can do your favorites types too) and train them while going to which challenge you want. Though in this phase you can get crazy with which challenge to pick, you should leave Glaseado as the final Challenge. If you get tired of North Paldea you can go to South Paldea (Alfornada) as well, but you will need to go there anyway.
Final Phase: Basically once you made all Gyms, Titan Pokemon and Team Stars bases you done. Only make sure to leave every last phases of each routes after finishing them all while you can do those right away, since those battles will be in the levels of the farthest areas of Pladea (Lvl 45+). But you can still do them however you like.
Training advise: Though in usual Pokemon game you will want to stick to one team, in Scarlet and Violet it's advised to mix up the team in a while so they won't get too overleveled. If you get to the first Gym (either Cortondo or Aratzon) being more than Lvl15, you are overleveld. The fact it's so easy to get access to the box in this game make this process much easier and fun.
Side objectives and activities
editThere are some side objectives and activities that are not strictly required to complete the story of the game, but may make doing so easier or may simply be enjoyable.
- Catching new Pokémon to build a team or expand a Pokédex.
- Battling trainers in a region - After enough trainers are battled, a prize may be available at a nearby Pokémon center.
- Participating in raid battles, giving the player a chance to catch an unusual Pokémon, earn League Point currency (Even if the raid is simply checked), or earn rarer items.
- Finding Gimmighoul coins.
- Collecting items off the ground.
- Collecting sandwich ingredients and picnic gear.
- Hosting picnics.
- Buying accessories such as hats or backpacks.

Epilogue
Starting the Epilogue
editTo start the Epilogue, the major story events of the game and DLC should be more or less completed. Furthermore, a special berry item must be downloaded from the Internet via the Mystery Gift function to enable to Epilogue to be played.
Exposition
editOnce the above is complete, visit the shop in Kitakami, and investigate the statue just to the right of the shopkeeper. This will kick off the events of the epilogue.
- A cutscene will play directing the player back to their home where the game started in Paldea, and further cutscenes will play.
- The player will then be directed to go to the gates of Mesagoza.
- From there, the player will go to Kitakami.
- From there to Kieran and Carmine's family house, leading to more cutscenes and exposition.
Start of Gameplay
edit- The player will then be directed to look for the remote control for the television in the community center. It can be found hidden in a potted plant on the right hand side of the screen.
- The player will be directed to the square, which begins the gameplay portion of the DLC. It is not particularly challenging compared to the earlier portions of the game, but it would be a good idea to have a healed and battle ready team for this section. A double battle against two trainers from the orchard will commence, with Kieran assisting the player character.
- After winning the battle, the player should heal at the center if needed, then should follow Nemona to the Festival area. At the gate the player will encounter Yukito and Hideko, the grandparents of Keiran and Camine. A cutscene will play with some exposition showing how these strange behavior is initiated, and a double battle starts, with the player character and Keiran facing off against Yukito and Hideko. Again, this battle is nothing special compared to earlier ones in the game, and Keiran has his full team of 6 to assist the player.

---|---|
Arbok ♂ - Level 80 | Chandelure ♀ - Level 82 |
Wheezing ♂ - Level 80 | Mamoswine ♀ - Level 82 |
Escalation
editFollowing the battle, a cutscene will play where Arven calls the player and is cut off. Return to town and a new cutscene will play. Having consumed the mochi flung from the new Pokémon, Arven and Penny will begin to defend it. When the cutscene ends, the player will have an opportunity to heal their team at the Pokémon Center if needed, and can interact with Arven and Penny to start the a double battle alongside Kieran.

Cloyster ♂ - Level 82 | Sylveon ♀ - Level 85 |
Mabosstiff ♂ - Level 83 | Leafeon ♀ - Level 84 |
This double battle offers more resistance then the others in the epilogue so far, but again, it's nothing compared to what was found earlier in the game. Keiran brings in a full team of 6 Pokémon, so as long If the player brings in a full battle ready team of similar level themselves and doesn't deliberately throw the match, the possibility of loss is next to nothing as the player will effectively have twice the number of Pokémon as the opposing team. A cutscene will play and Keiran will chase after the Pokémon through the orchard. Heal up at the Pokémon center if needed, and continue. on to the entrance of Loyalty Plaza for a cutscene encounter with Nemona. At the end of the cutscene, Keiran will guard the player from the villagers, freeing the player to dual with Neomna. The game does not force this battle afterwards, so it is possible to save, heal, change the party, or otherwise leave and come back if needed. When ready, interact with Nemona to start the battle.

Kommo-o ♀ - Level 86 | ||
Milotic ♀ - Level 86 | ||
Pawmot ♂ - Level 86 | ||
Goodra ♀ - Level 86 | ||
Mewoscarada ♂ - Level 87 |
This is the most challenging match in the Epilogue. Lycanroc can start by using stealth rock, punishing swapping out Pokémon. Kommo-o will effectively counter leading with Skeledirge, having the soundproof ability to negate Torch Song. Most members of the opposing team have a move that is super effective against fire, meaning it may be best to lead with other Pokémon. Having a dragon or a fairy type can make this battle much easier. Her final Pokemon, Meowscarada, will terrastalize into a Dark type, negating the weakness to Fire, and offering an advantage against ghost types, further countering Skeledirge.
After the battle, you'll have a chance to heal and save. Interact with the Pokémon to be given the option of challenging it. During the battle, the Pokémon can't be caught, so focus on using moves such as ghost type, which are supereffective against the Ghost and Poison typing used by the opposing Pokémon. It knows Shadow Ball and Nasty Plot. Once it's health is depleted fully, the game will prompt the player to catch it. Consider picking a ball that matches it thematically rather then worry about effectiveness.
When caught the Pokémon is level 88 and knows the move Nasty Plot, Malignant Chain, Shadow Ball, and Toxic.
A cutscene will play concluding the primary portion of the epilogue. The player character is transferred to the community center following this - Leave it to initiate another cutscene. The game then returns the player to the interior lobby of the Paldean academy, with an increase to the number of the people which can be invited to the clubroom at Blueberry Academy.
