Ordinary Differential Equations/Help

Examples and Problems

edit

We can always use more real world examples, and more example problems both in the text and in the problems and answer section. Even a few help, especially if you have access to mathematica and/or maple and can generate them quickly. I do not and have to solve them by hand, a slow process.

NOTE: Especially need help on the first order linear section. My calc-fu is not up to doing complex integrals of   by hand.

NOTE: Especially need more real world examples of both homogenous and nonhomogenous constant coefficient problems.

Checking existing examples

edit

Since I do them by hand, there are probably some mistakes among the existing examples. If someone cares to check them and fix any mistakes, it'd be appreciated.

Graphs

edit

For the section on graphing- I don't have any good software for generating graphs. If anyone can get me some jpegs of slope fields and isoclines, I can write my explanation to work with your jpegs. Or just write the lesson if you care to.

I have Mathematica 5.2, I can make some graphs if you give me the equations. Just reply with the equations and I will post them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.107.52.66 (talkcontribs) 22:23, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Just a small note, you'll want to save the graphics as a PNG file. It's a lossless compression format and is best suited for exactly these types of images. I have Mathematica and gnuplot, so I may look into making some graphs. Robert A. Maxwell (talk) 15:00, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
The matplotlib Python module is freely available, similar to, and nearly as good as Matlab if you are familiar with that.

Write a section

edit

Feel free to just go ahead and write a section I haven't gotten to yet. If that would require opening the next chapter that hasn't been broken down yet, I'd be happy to discuss how to do it with you.
