Medieval Mythology is a misnomer, since most of the myths where adopted from varied cultural backgrounds during medieval times, nevertheless there where some new creations and some ceased to be in common use, especially due to the influence of the Catholic Church. Some argue that Medieval Mythology is more appropriately classified as folklore with the tales of Lady Godiva, Peeping Tom, Pope Joan and Prester John. There is also the problem of clearly define the locality, even if it commonly refers and is restricted to Europe.
During the Medieval Period there was much development. Many of the European mythologies such as Scandinavian and Celtic Mythologies were still actively being shared and spread trough Europe. The regions of Scandinavia continued to hold their pagan beliefs well into the medieval period as the pressure to convert to Christianism final eroded away some of the myths.
