Screw Thread is a feature of one of the most used component in machinery which is fasteners. Fasteners comes under the category of Temporary joints which makes them versatile in application from carpentry to automobiles and from simple machine tools to large aerospace assemblies. The basic principle it works on is of pushing a load up to a slanted edge of a right angle triangle (just reference).
