This quest, once completed, allows you a hatchling to care for and level in power.
This quest starts out in Giran Castle Town. Talk to Pet Manager Cooper (located by the Prestigious Items Hall), and in doing so, you'll inform him that you want to raise a hatchling. He'll hint towards you traveling to Hunter's Village, and talking to Wiseman Chronos. Hunter's Village is only a short run to the North-East, or an even faster teleport costing 9400 adena.
Wiseman Chronos spends his time hiding on the northern side of the stairs located by the Hunters' Village gatekeeper. Tell him you want to raise a hatchling, and he'll try to dissuade you from it. He will go on to suggest that you would do well to speak to a fairy about the matter, and to go to Enchanted Valley. However, in order to get an audience with a fairy (read: catch one) you must have a Fairy Stone (read: fairy catnip). Chronos offers two choices for you. A regular Fairy Stone, and a Deluxe Fairy Stone. Here are the requirements for each of the fairy stones.
Regular Fairy Stone:
- 10 Coal
- 10 Charcoal
- 1 D-gemstone
- 10 Toad Lord back skins
Deluxe Fairy Stone:
- 10 Coal
- 10 Charcoal
- 1 C-gemstone
- 1 Stone of Purity
- 5 Silver nuggets
- 20 Toad Lord back skins
The difference between them is quite mysterous, even for a wizened old sage like myself. Luckily, the mystery has been unraveled. Should you opt for the Deluxe Fairy Stone, you'll be given Fairy Dust by the fairy you catch, which you can turn in at the end of this quest for 20 hatchling food.
He'll inform you that Maria of Dion Castle Town will be able to help you in creating a Fairy Stone, and that you need to defeat some Toad Lords in the Cruma Marshlands and retrieve their back skin.
