Options affecting all LO


This section covers the arrangements that apply to all applications of LO, which is very useful, and the text editor. For information on settings not discussed here, see the program help.

  1. Go to 'Tools> Options'. The list on the left differs depending on which component of LO is open. The illustrations in this chapter show the list as it appears when there are no open documents. (Eg when you open a Writer document are displayed additional options for Writer and indication LibreOffice Writer / Web appears in the list).

Privacy Options


Because OOo's revision features characterize your changes and comments to the name or initials stored in the Personal Data, it is advisable to make that the name and initials appear correctly. To do this:

General Options

  1. In the Options dialog, click LibreOffice> General.

On LibreOffice - General, selections are as follows:

  • Help - Tips
When Help - Tips are selected, one or two words will appear when you hover the Mouse over an icon or field in the main window OOo.   • Assistant

  • Formatting help
High contrast is an operating system setting that changes the colors the system to improve readability. To help visualize the high contrast (if your computer supports it), choose a style from the high Contrast from the list.
  • Open dialog / Download
To use the Windows Open and Save dialogs as provided by the your system, uncheck the box Use the dialog When this checkbox is selected will be used dialog boxes Open and Save of See Chapter 3 (File Management) for more information on Windows Open and Save dialogs of OOo.
  • Document Status
Choose whether printing a document is calculated as amended. If this option is enabled, then the next time you close the form after printing, print date is recorded in the document properties as a change and you prompted to save the document again, even if you did not make any changes.
  • Year (two digits)

Memory Options

  1. In the Options dialog, click> Memory.

View Options

  • User Interface - Scale

If the text in the help files and menus of the OOo is too big or too small, you can change them by setting a rate. Sometimes a change here can have unpredictable results depending on the fonts available on your system. It does not affect the actual font size of text.

  • User Interface - Icon size and style

The first box specifies the display size of toolbar icons (small, large or automatically). The Automatic option uses the icon size of the operating your system. The second box specifies the set eikoindion (theme). Here the Automatic option uses an icon set compatible with your operating system and choice desktop: for example, KDE or Gnome on Linux.

  • User Interface - Use system font

If you prefer to use the font on your system (the default font for your computer and your operating system) instead of the font provided by OOo, user interface, select this checkbox.

  • User Interface - Antialiasing screen font

(Not available on Windows, so it appears in Figure 4) Check this box to normalize the appearance of text on the screen. Enter the smallest text size which will apply antialiasing.

  • Menu - icons in menus

Choose whether you want to display icons as well as descriptions of the menus.

  • Font Lists - Show preview of fonts

When using this option, the font list looks like Figure 5, left, with the names of fonts as well as samples.   • Font Lists - Show font history

When using this option, the last five fonts you have use the current document displayed on the top of the list of fonts.

  • 3D View

These options are used with the Draw (Draw) and Impress (presentations). With more information about, see the online help or other documentation pertaining to these applications.

  • Mouse

Use these options to specify how the index is placed in mouse in the dialog boxes that open and to select the function middle button.


Set the print options to suit your default printer and the most common printing method. You can change these settings any time either through this dialog or during the process printing (by clicking Options in the Print dialog box).

  1. In the Options dialog, click LibreOffice> Print.
  2. In the dialog LibreOffice - Print (Figure 6), see section Warnings printer near the base of the window.
  3. Here you can choose whether to warn when the paper size or orientation defined in the document do not match what is available for your printer. The activation of these notifications can is extremely useful especially if you work with documents from people of countries where the standard paper size is different from the country you.

Route Options

  1. In the Options dialog, click> Paths.

Color Options

Font Options

Display Options


The writing, editing and page layout are often easier to make when you can see as many of them occurring in your document. You may wish to make visible such items as text, tables and sections (Documents in Writer), page breaks in Calc, and grid lines in Draw or Writer. In addition, you may prefer different colors (from the default of LO) for items such as note indicators or field shadings. On page - View (Figure 11), you can determine which objects will are visible and the colors used to display various objects.

  1. In the Options dialog, click LibreOffice> Appearance.
  2. To show or hide items such as text boundaries, select or deselect the boxes next to the names of objects.

To change the default colors for items, click on the arrow pointing downwards in the column Color Setting (color separation) beside the name of object and select a color from the dropdown list.

Accessibility Options


Accessibility options include whether to use animated graphics or text, some options for high contrast imaging and a method to change the font of the user interface of LibreOffice.

Other conditions and information.

  1. In the Options dialog, click> Accessibility.
  2. Select or clear depending on your requirements.

Java Options


If you install or upgrade the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed after LibreOffice or if you have more than one JRE on your computer, you To use the options page Java to select which JRE to use
