History of video games/Platforms/Tomy Tutor
History
editLaunch
editThe Tommy Tutor was launched in Japan in 1983.[1]
An attempt was made to market the system in the USA, with Sarah Purcell acting as a spokeswoman in some marketing materials.[2][3] These materials emphasized the ease of use of the system.[4]
Legacy
editThe computer is remembered for being fairly sturdy, and good for both education and games.[5]
Noted game developer Masahiro Sakurai recounted using some publicly available Tommy Tutors in Maicon stores as a youth when he was out of allowance money.[6]
This game console was mentioned in episode 11 of the 2020 anime Tonikawa: Over the Moon for You.[7]
Technology
editWhile the specifications of the Tutor are often compared to some Texas Instruments computers, design differences make them quite differences in practice.[8]
