History of video games/Platforms/Super Retro Trio

History

edit

The Retro-Bit Super Retro Trio was preceded by the portable Retro Duo.

The original Super Retro Trio was released in 2014.[1][2]

The Super Retro Trio Plus model released around 2018.[3][4] This model received reviews which were mostly positive, albeit with significant caveats.[5][4][3]

Technology

edit

Electronics

edit

According to a review by Destructoid, the Super Retro Trio Plus used "Software on a chip" technology for game compatibility.[4]

The Super Retro Trio Plus model was capable of outputting a 720p resolution picture using HDMI, albeit with some noted clarity issues.[3][4] HDMI output was stretched to 16:9 aspect ratio, distorting the image further.[5] The system was also capable out outputting a standard definition composite signal over 3 RCA jacks on the back of the system.[4][3]

Hardware

edit

The system sported two controller ports for each supported system underneath a movable panel, for six total ports.[4] The system shipped with two controllers, which attach via the SNES port but are usable for all supported systems with some caveats.[1]

The system possessed a microUSB port for power, and was shipped with a power adapter.[3]

The Super Retro Trio Plus carried a P65 warning.[6]

Games

edit

The Super Retro Trio and Super Retro Trio Plus played Genesis, SNES, and NES games.[3][4] Despite an option toggle, European systems could only play Genesis/Mega Drive games with PAL standards.[7][1]

An optional adapter accessory expanded the original Super Retro Trio to allow it to play GameBoy and GameBoy Advance games.[2]
