History of video games/Platforms/Big O

History edit

Development edit

A soft announcement occurred in July 2019 to commemorate the Origin PC 10 year anniversary, when one off Big O hardware was shown.[1][2]

Launch edit

At CES 2020 on January 6th, 2020 the Big O was both announced and launched on the same day by Origin PC with a starting price of $2,499.[3][4]

Legacy edit

The timing of the high end system launch was noted as odd, as it was seen as one which would be quickly made obsolete by upcoming console releases.[5][6]

Technology edit

The main PC, as well as the integrated Xbox One X and PS4 Pro are liquid cooled.[2]

The PC portion featured a capture card as an official upgrade option, which was seen of as a good choice for console game streamers.[7]

Differences edit

2019 units incorporated a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and a Nintendo Switch dock simultaneously in a single unit with unified power and cooling subsystems.[1] 2020 units were notably more modest, and featured either an equivalent PS4 pro, or an inferior Xbox One S All digital Edition, but one had to be selected from the factory instead of simply containing both.[8] An integral Nintendo Switch dock is omitted from 2020 production units.[9]

2020 Production units and 2019 showcase units use different casing, with 2019 casing being custom, and 2020 casing using smaller commercially available Corsair cases.[9]
