The Atari 800 and 400 were released in 1979 with the 400 costing $550 and the 800 costing $1000.[1]

The Atari 400 and the Atari 800 are powered by an 8-bit 6502 processor clocked at 1.79 megahertz.[2][3]

The Atari 400 has eight kilobytes of RAM in early models and 16 kilobytes of RAM in later models.[4] The Atari 800 has 16 kilobytes of RAM in early models and 48 kilobytes of RAM in later models.[5]
