Guide to The Lord of the Rings/Characters/Peregrin Took

Peregrin "Pippin" Took was Merry's best friend, and a relative of Frodo. Though originally a prankster, overly curious and an occasional source of frustration for Gandalf, he matures as the story progresses, eventually actively participating in the War of the Ring. One of his major functions is to serve as comic relief, alongside Merry.
