You need to attend to relationships to keep them in balance, i.e. not blowing up or otherwise ending. Relationships need regular attention so that hurts and problems do not build up. Use interpersonal effectiveness skills to address problems and relieve hurts.

Most people end relationships prematurely – the relationship could have been saved by using skills. Usually, there is a problem that needs to be solved.

Resolve interpersonal conflicts before they get overwhelming. The ability to repair relationships is important, but promptly resolving interpersonal conflicts is even more important.

Some relationships cannot be salvaged. Ending hopeless relationships is difficult; the benefit is that you will not be burdened by a relationship that is not working or too stressful.
