Yoruba yam porridge, also known as asaro, is a native food eaten in western Nigeria. It consists of primarily of yam, peppers, meat, and vegetables. It contains dietary fibre, vitamins, and minerals.

- Yam, peeled
- Onions, sliced
- Ground crayfish
- Dryfish
- Tomato paste
- Ground chile pepper
- Salt
- Seasoning cubes
- Palm oil
Procedure edit
- Place the yam and sliced onions in a pot, and cover with water.
- Cover the pot, and boil until the yam is soft.
- Stir in the ground crayfish, dryfish, tomato paste, and ground pepper.
- Season with salt and seasoning cubes.
- Stir in palm oil. Cover and let simmer for about 5–7 minutes.
- Remove from the heat, and smash the components to your preference.
