Playing 2. Bf4 leads to the London System for white but can easily transpose into other lines. The London System is a Queen's pawn opening where White develops their dark squared bishop to f4 to avoid blocking it in with pawns on c3 and e3. White plans to close the position while strengthening the centre with Nd2 and developing the light squared bishop to d3. It can be used against nearly all of Black's common replies to 1. d4 including the Indian Defence. The most common move for Black in this position is 2...d5.
