Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia "created and edited" by volunteers around the world and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation.

Project

History

Wikipedia was started in January 2001. Several software changes were made before converting to today's MediaWiki. The community grew rapidly until 2007, when it started to decline.
