Guidelines

edit

When working on this project, remember that it's aimed at children. It's more important to be understood than to be precisely accurate on every detail. Use technical vocabulary when you need to, but don't use big words where simpler language would work. When you have to use an uncommon or technical word, list it in the glossary of basic terms and define it. Giving definitions when such words are used is generally a good idea as well.

It also helps to make the article "speak" to the reader, than just make it encyclopedic and be precise on every detail. For young editors, it's best to make the article speak to them so the young reader can understand the body part. As said above, make sure to use simple words the young reader can understand. If you have too big of a word, and you don't know how to simplify it, you can look it up online or in a thesaurus.

Please, if you can contribute to this book, do so. Many sections are in need of help. You can work on almost anything including this page, but if you want to make some significant changes please bring them up on the discussion page. You are welcome to create modules for additional parts of the body.

Try to restrict discussion to the main discussion page so that people can actually see your message without having to check specific pages.

Create or request an article

edit

You are encouraged to create an article on an interesting part of the body. Note however that not all articles will make it into the final published version, though they will all be available on this live online version. If you would like someone else to write a page about a part of the body, add your suggestion to the Article Stubs list. When creating stub articles please use the Wikijunior Human Body/Stub Template.

Major questions

Consider using these questions as headings in each article:

  • What does a [body part] look like?
  • What are the parts of the [body part]?
  • What is the function of the [body part]?
  • How does the [body part] interact with other parts of the body?
  • How can you keep your [body part] healthy?
