Why do I need to wear a lifejacket?

edit

A lifejacket is designed to keep you afloat if you fall out of the boat. Everyone in the boat needs to wear one, even if they can swim. Lifejackets will keep your face out of the water even if you're not awake, but only if you're wearing it. If you ever go out in a boat, make sure everyone is wearing a lifejacket!

How do I know if my lifejacket fits properly?

edit

This lifejacket fits well, but make sure you do up all the straps, buckles and zippers.

A lifejacket that doesn't fit won't do you any good. This one looks like it would slide right over his head!

A lifejacket should fit snugly around your chest, and you shouldn't be able to pull it off over your head with your arms up. For small children, there may be a strap that goes between the legs to make sure it doesn't come off over their head. Make sure you do up all the zippers, buckles and straps.

Can I go out in the boat myself?

edit

No. You should always have at least one adult with you when you go on a boat.

What do I need to take with me in the boat?

edit

You should always wear a lifejacket.
