After food goes through the digestive system, the parts that are not digested need to be gotten rid of. That is the job of the excretory system.

What are the parts of the Excretory System?

The excretory system includes the kidneys, long tubes called ureters, and the bladder which stores urine until it leaves the body.

Even the liver and skin play a role in the excretory system and removing waste, although they are also part of other systems.

What is the function of the Excretory System?

Unabsorbed food goes to the large intestine. The liver also filters out solid particles of waste from the blood. These solid wastes are removed from the body through the rectum, which is at the end of the large intestine.

Liquid wastes are filtered by the kidneys, a part of the excretory system. The kidneys have long tubes coming out of them called ureters that drain liquid into the bladder. The bladder stores liquid waste called urine until it is passed out of the body through the urethra.

How does the Excretory System interact with other parts of the body?

The excretory system takes food from the digestive system and removes the waste. Wastes are also filtered from blood in the body. Sweat contains waste that is put out through the skin.

How can you keep your Excretory System healthy?

Eating well and drinking plenty of water keeps the excretory system healthy. Eating enough fiber, which is found in fresh fruits and vegetables, will make sure that your system stays healthy.
