Step back and think before responding to behavior you find inappropriate. Keep a sense of proportion. Problems often escalate when one contributor feels that another is throwing stones from a glass house. Sometimes, two or more contributors will be in conflict, and one will warn or even report another, not realizing that conflict involves more than one party.
Before applying a rule to someone else consider whether you have been following that rule yourself. If you feel a rule is being cited unfairly, try to stay cool. When there is a dispute, everyone would do well to remember what the dispute is actually about and to focus on what is not disputed, rather than on the dispute itself.
