General Description

This Act effectively allows DNR to exercise executive powers of the state with respect to wild animal life, freshwater aquatic life, and marine life.

Function

Establishes that Georgia residents have a right to take fish and wildlife, subject to the laws and regulations adopted for the public good and general welfare.

Establishes that Georgia’s wildlife resources should be managed in accordance with sound principles of wildlife management.

Establishes that the ownership and jurisdiction over all wildlife within the state is in the State of Georgia, held in trust for the benefit of its citizens.

Provides DNR the authority to coordinate with sportsmen and conservation groups to ensure that hunting and fishing activities continue into perpetuity and that no net loss of species occurs over time.

Subjects violators of the regulations established by the DNR to criminal sanctions.
