What's in a name?

Here are a few of the names for our city:

Portland

In 1851 the name "Portland" was chosen for the the new community near where the Columbia and Willamette rivers meet. It was almost named "Boston"!

Multnomah

Long before there was Portland, this area was known as the home of the Multnomah people. Multnomah County is named after them. Their leader was Chief Multnomah.
