The animals speak/The ears speak
The movements of the ears are very expressive. Some seem easy enough to understand. Erect ears indicate attention to a potential danger, or to a prey. Ears curved forward suggest submission. But most movements are beyond my comprehension. I have been trying for several years to understand them without much success. They are not necessarily always signals. They may only manifest nervous agitation, a little like scratches. To better understand, I imitate the movements of the ears with my hands, awkwardly, and observe the reactions of the animals. They are generally not impressed by my attempts at dialogue, but it seems to me that the bat-eared fox took me for a handicapped person and that she wanted to show me what an expert can do:
