With the help of the Queensland Government, it was announced during early 2009 that they would contribute sufficient funds allowing the redevelopment of Gold Coast, Carrara Stadium. The Stadium would have a 25,000 seat capacity and be scheduled to be completed in May 2011. Funding grants for the new stadium were received from the Gold Coast city council (20million), federal and state government (86 million) and AFL (10million). At the scheduled completion of the redevelopment the Carrara Stadium, and with the assistance of financial backer ‘Metricon’ the stadium was renamed (Metricon Stadium) and became the official headquarters for the Gold Coast Suns home games, as well as be utilised as an administration base for the management of the club.
