Common name: blind snake.

Typhlops is the type genus (representative genus, with regard to a biological family), one of 10 genera of the family Typhlopidae. Snakes of this genus are found in southeastern Europe, the Middle East, tropical and subtropical Asia, most of Africa, Madagascar and certain islands of the Indian Ocean, the Philippines, Moluccas, New Guinea, Central America, South America, and the West Indies. Currently, 120 species are recognized, accounting for over half of the species in the family Typhlopidae.

In Europe the only native species is Typhlops vermicularis, the Blind Snake or Worm Snake, it is found only in southeastern Europe, the Balkans, and islands in the Aegean.
