- Male breast cancer accounts for <1% of all breast cancer cases in the US.
- BRCA2:
- Overall, 14% risk of being BRCA2+ (unselected patients with male breast cancer)
- Risk of BRCA2+ in 77% in men with breast cancer in families with hereditary breast cancer
- Risk for development of breast cancer in BRCA2+ man: 6.3% by age 70 [1]; 2.8% by age 70 and 6.9% by 80[2]; relative risk of 102[3]
- BRCA1:
- Association is less clear than with BRCA2
Epidemiology

- 142 pts treated at MSKCC or Ochsner Clinic.
- 5-year OS 86%, 10-yr 64%.
- 15% of pts had a 1st degree relative with breast cancer.
- Conclusion: Family history did not affect the age at diagnosis, duration of symptoms, the stage, or survival.
