Tied notes are two notes in different measures that are played as one continuous note. A group of tied notes is written as two or more separate notes held together by a curved line call a tie. For example, if a composer wants to write a note that gets eight beats in 4/4 time, he would write to whole notes (four beats) in two measures and connect them with a tie. He could do the same with one more whole note to make a note with twelve beats, and so on and so forth.
